SBI and Startale to Launch Regulated Yen Stablecoin in 2026
Tokyo's SBI Holdings and Web3 firm Startale Group announced plans to issue a yen-denominated stablecoin by Q2 2026. The collaboration combines SBI's financial infrastructure with Startale's blockchain expertise, including their work on Sony-backed Soneium network.
The yet-unnamed stablecoin will be fully regulated and designed for global institutional use. Shinsei Trust & Banking will manage issuance while SBI VC Trade handles circulation. This follows Startale's recent launch of USDSC stablecoin on Soneium.
"The token economy is irreversible," said SBI's Yoshitaka Kitao, positioning the project as bridging traditional finance and digital assets. The yen stablecoin and USDSC will FORM a "complementary currency stack" for a planned 24/7 tokenized stock exchange.
